RAV1043

A cartoonist is hired by a government agency to anthropomorphise the military’s new infantry drone. Inspired by the life of legendary cartoonist and voiceover artist Mel Blanc (the voice of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety, Sylvester, Woody Woodpecker, Barney Rubble, and many many more), this ambitious short explores the artistic process by cleverly using production design to avoid placing the story in any particular era. Starring Gerry Lepkowski (Game of Thrones, Death of Stalin), Dimitri Leonidas (The Monuments Men, Rosewater) and Sian Clifford (Fleabag).

Shot in B&W in a 1.33 aspect ratio to invoke old TV serials such as The Twilight Zone. Most of the lighting in the hangar was achieved with a single ARRI T5 that was mounted to the top of the aircraft hangar. A scissor-lift was used to achieve the high-angle shots, as well as a combination of motion control and gimbal / jib.

RAV1043 premiered at the SITGES IFFFC ‘21.
